This is a courtesy translation. The German version is the legally binding one.

Protecting your personal data is important to me. I process your data exclusively on the basis of the statutory provisions (GDPR, Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021). This privacy policy informs you about the most important aspects of data processing on this website.

Hosting and server log files

This website is operated on a server of ZAP-Hosting GmbH, Hafenweg 8, 48155 Münster, Germany. The server is located in Germany; ZAP-Hosting processes data on my behalf as a processor pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR. Further information can be found in the ZAP-Hosting privacy policy.

When you visit the website, technical access data (so-called server log files) is processed automatically, in particular:

  • IP address
  • Date and time of access
  • Page or file requested
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system used
  • Referrer URL

This data is used exclusively to ensure trouble-free operation and to analyse and defend against attacks, and is deleted after a short time. Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the secure and reliable provision of the website).

Cloudflare

This website uses services of Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA (“Cloudflare”) as a content delivery network and security service. The server is not directly reachable from the internet but is connected via a Cloudflare Tunnel (“cloudflared”): the cloudflared service running on my server establishes an outbound, encrypted connection to Cloudflare, and all access to this website is routed through it. In doing so, Cloudflare processes technical connection data (in particular IP address, pages accessed, device and browser information) in order to deliver the website efficiently and protect it against attacks (e.g. DDoS attacks). Cloudflare may set technically necessary cookies for this purpose.

Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the secure, fast and reliable provision of the website). Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Further information can be found in the Cloudflare privacy policy.

Microsoft Clarity

This website uses Microsoft Clarity, a web analytics service provided by Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, One Microsoft Place, South County Business Park, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, Ireland (“Microsoft”). Clarity records how visitors use the website (e.g. mouse movements, clicks, scrolling behaviour) and creates heatmaps and session recordings from this data. Cookies and similar technologies may be used, and data (including truncated IP address, device and browser information, usage behaviour) may be transferred to Microsoft servers, including in the USA. Microsoft is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in improving the website). Further information can be found in the Microsoft privacy statement and the Clarity documentation.

Source links and QR codes

Some links and QR codes (e.g. on postcards or in posts) contain a source parameter (“?src=…”). When the website is opened through such a link, I store on my own server the source value, time, the page visited, device class, operating system and browser (from the user agent), the country (derived from the IP address by Cloudflare) and the referring domain. The IP address itself is not stored; to count unique visitors only a truncated hash that changes daily is created. You are then redirected to the same page without the parameter. No cookies are set.

The purpose is to evaluate which links, QR codes and campaigns are used. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in measuring the success of my own promotional material). The data is deleted automatically after 400 days at the latest.

Contacting me

If you contact me by email or via linked platforms (GitHub, Discord, LinkedIn), the data you provide (name, email address, content of your message) will be stored by me in order to process your enquiry and in case of follow-up questions. I do not share this data without your consent. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (pre-contractual measures) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering your enquiry).

Links to external platforms

This website contains links to external platforms such as GitHub, Discord and LinkedIn. When you click these links you leave this website; the privacy policies of the respective provider apply. Merely displaying the links on this website does not transfer any data to these providers.

Storage period

Personal data is only stored for as long as necessary for the stated purposes or as long as statutory retention obligations apply. Server log files are automatically deleted after a short time.

Language preference

If you choose a language using the language switcher, this choice is stored in a cookie (NEXT_LOCALE) in your browser for one year so that the website opens in your preferred language on your next visit. Without a saved choice, the language is preselected based on the language setting of your browser and, if necessary, the country associated with your IP address (provided by Cloudflare); this information is not stored. This cookie is technically necessary to provide the language selection you requested.

Your rights

You generally have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16 GDPR), erasure (Art. 17 GDPR), restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR), data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) and objection (Art. 21 GDPR). You can withdraw any consent you have given at any time with effect for the future. If you believe that the processing of your data violates data protection law, you can lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority. In Austria this is the Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde).
